You only have one life and everything in it impacts everything in it. That is your Plate.
Life has a habit of putting things on the plate when we arent expecting them.
A new responsibility. A difficult realtionship. A career decision. A change in circumstances. A loss of confidence. A challenge we would rather not deal with.
Sometimes the plate can become unstable. It can start to wobble.
Our instinct is often to add something else to the plate to compensate. To try and restore a sense of balance in our lives. We work harder. We take on more. Maybe learn a new skill or hire an additional person to take up the slack. Sometimes this might work. at least, for a while. In reality the actual challenge reamins unaddressed, the Plate is heavier and there’s more strain on the Stick.
Sometimes people push the challenge to the edge of the plate and hope that it just goes away. In reality when it’s ignored the issue has a bigger impact and, what’s worse, we aren’t really paying attention to it when it goes boom!
The answer is not to add more. The answer is not to ignore it and hope for the best.
The answer is to bring what’s causing the instability to the centre of the plate and deal with it.
That’s the thinking behind The Spinning Plate.
I work with senior leaders and organisations to identify what is really getting in the way of performance, progess and fulfilment – and then do something about it.
What I work on.
Leadership
Helping leaders become more deliberate, confident and effective in how they think, decide, communicate and lead.
Imposter Syndrome.
Understanding the beliefs and behaviours that cause capable people to doubt themsleves, hold themselves back or feel like they have to work twice as hard as everyone else. Why they put their success down to luck or some kind of recruitment mistake. There is a way through this and I can help.
Values and Alignment.
Exploring what really matters, where there is misalignment and how values can become something you actually use rather than something expensively painted on a wall and never looked at again.
Employees as Significant Stakeholders.
Helping organisations understand the relationship between leadership, employee experience, culture and reputation. Working on the trust thread from top to bottom.
The Plate and the Stick.
The Plate represents everything going on in your life.
The Stick represents you.
Sometimes the answer is to change what’s on the Plate. Bring it to the centre and deal with it.
Sometimes the answer is to make the Stick stronger. Read the books, go to the seminars, meet up with people who are great at the things you want to better at and ask them questions you absolutely need to know the answers to.
Usually it is a combination of both.
The Spinngin Plate helps you work out which is which.
Executive Coaching that gets to the point and won’t let you off the hook even when it gets tough.
My approach is to be curious, challenging and practical.
I won’t just tell you what you want to hear to make you feel good for a couple of days. Nor will I just give you a list of things you really ought to be doing already.
We’ll explore what’s really going on, identify the nub of the problem and work out what needs to change.
The aim isn’t just to make the plate spin.
The aim is to help you keep it balanced when life inevitably drops the next big challenge on it.
